ANSYS

ANSYS offers a comprehensive software suite for the simulation of a wide range of physical phenomena required for a design process.
Simulation-based product development opens up new dimensions for product development. The unprecedented depth and breadth of this software in combination with its technical scalability, comprehensive multiphysics functionalities and adaptable architecture characterize this software. This should make the technical design process more efficient and promote innovation. This enables simulated tests that are otherwise not possible.

1. what license(s)/rights of use do we have?

We can offer you the following licenses:

  • We have several "ANSYS Academic Multiphysics Campus Solution" licenses, consisting of research licenses and teaching licenses. The main difference in both license types is that the research licenses are not limited in their calculation depth (number of nodes). Several ANSYS tools are also integrated in these licenses; you can find a tabular overview here.
  • The research licenses also include some ANSYS Academic CFD-Turbo Tools licenses.
  • In addition, the research licenses also include the formerly independent functionalities of the Apache product, which are now managed by ANSYS as Semiconductor Tools.

2. who is authorized to use the software?

  • We only offer research licenses to the research groups/teaching areas of the TU, the affiliated institutes of the TU and the University of Kaiserslautern that contribute to the costs. In contrast to teaching licenses, the depth of calculation (number of nodes) is unlimited for research licenses.
  • We offer teaching licenses to all employees and students at RPTU with a valid RPTU account.
  • For licensing reasons, other groups of people and institutions may not use this software provided by us. In this case, please contact your software supplier directly.

Everyone who uses the software provided by us is personally responsible for ensuring that the software is only used in accordance with the scope specified in the license conditions. Please read these carefully.

3. on which hardware can the software be used?

  1. RHRZ provides the software as network licenses on our powerful RHRZ Elwe servers. Due to the computing power of our RHRZ servers, this is the type of use we recommend.
  2. We also offer the option of local installation, which can be downloaded from the service portal. There you will also find all the necessary information on licensing, both for teaching and research licenses.
After installing the software, your computer must be enabled for access through the firewall.
If you are not yet authorized to download, please check the relevant details in the following section on ordering software.

4. what are the costs of using the software?

  • The use of teaching licenses is free of charge for all authorized users.
  • The use of research licenses is subject to a fee.
We only pass on the actual license costs to all users and try to allocate these fairly and equitably to all users. The amount of these costs is generally based on your actual usage period and is calculated by us once a year and subsequently invoiced to the organizational unit (e.g. working group, teaching area, department, affiliated institute...) that has given us approval for its use.

5. how can you order the software?

Requirements

  1. All employees and students at RPTU with a valid RPTU account can download the teaching licenses from the service portal.
  2. To use the research licenses by students at RPTU, please contact the supervisor of your working group. The responsible OU admin can then enter you in the OU of authorized users.
  3. Employees of RPTU and affiliated institutes belonging to RPTU require the approval of the cost centre manager of their organizational unit for the use of research licences. In this case, please contact our ticket system, stating your RPTU account and your organizational unit (faculty, teaching area and name of the cost centre manager).
You will then receive a message when the software is available to you.
