Linux Terminal Server

The RHRZ has two Linux terminal servers, “linux-ts1.rptu.de” and “linux-ts2.rptu.de,” which have identical hardware and software. Enterprise Linux 8 is installed as the operating system; a wide range of additional applications for research, teaching, and productivity is available via a modular system.

Specifications for each:

• 72 CPU cores
• 1 TB RAM
• CUDA-capable graphics card

Authentication

Authentication on both systems is performed using your RPTU account. Use your account name without @rptu.de.
You can change your RPTU password at https://accounts.rptu.de/password.

Access

You have the following options for logging in to the computers:

• SSH or X2go (VPN connection required)
• Remote Desktop (possible with VPN or via the gateway server rdsgate.uni-kl.de without VPN)
  

To establish a Remote Desktop connection from your Linux system, follow the instructions for connecting via the gateway server (Linux). If you are not connecting from a Linux system, please follow the corresponding instructions for connecting to the Windows Remote Desktop servers from Windows or macOS. (To do this, replace ts.uni-kl.de with “linux-ts1.rptu.de” or “linux-ts2.rptu.de.”)

You can change the login shell in the RHRZ service portal under the“Active Directory Attributes”menu item.

You can use the RHRZ’s central print service.

Software

In addition to freely available programs for Linux, software products from third-party vendors are also installed. Use the command ` module avail` to get a list of available software.

To work with module files, use the `module` command in combination with a subcommand. The following table describes some subcommands. To view a complete list, run `module` without a subcommand.
