From 16 to 1—Starts Oct. 14, 26
As part of the ongoing development of the university’s structure (WdU), we are consolidating all TYPO3 instances from the departments into a single instance.
This allows individual websites—such as those for research groups—to be flexibly moved between departments without losing existing links. For editorial teams, this means they won’t have to rebuild the websites—content and structure will remain intact.
Advantages
Flexible page structures across departments and hubs
Robust internal links
Disadvantages
Maintenance windows involving editorial teams are significantly extended
Phase 2
Content Consolidation
- Websites for student working groups, projects, and degree programs will be moved to the main website of the respective department (dean’s offices & RHRZ)
- Review and adjustment of access rights (RHRZ)
Timeframe: Depends on scheduling with the dean’s offices
Duration: Approx . 2 person-days per department
Maintain search engine visibility!
During the restructuring, preserving as many URLs as possible should be the top priority.
Due to multiple restructurings of the RPTU websites in recent years, we have already lost visibility in search engines—any further unnecessary changes to URLs will exacerbate this effect.
The editorial teams will therefore maintain a redirect log during the consolidation, which must be submitted collectively via the dean’s offices upon the relaunch.
Requirements for Editorial Offices
After the technical and content consolidation, the editorial teams must review their pages and correct any errors. Since importing and exporting in TYPO3 is technically challenging, some follow-up work cannot be entirely ruled out.
In addition, from the time of the export (the “technical consolidation”) until the launch of the respective department, all editorial teams must maintain the content in two places.
