Services for the Rhineland-Palatinate Data Center Alliance
All Rhineland-Palatinate colleges and universities are organized in the Rhineland-Palatinate Computer Centre Alliance (RARP). The purpose of RARP is to support all members of these institutions in the provision of IT infrastructures and to make better use of resources by offering centralized services.
As far as technically possible, users generally log in to our services via Shibboleth. To do this, the institution only needs to configure its identity provider once so that all employees can authenticate themselves. The vast majority of institutions have already done this successfully. On the RHRZ website, you can log in to all our services via https://login.rarp-kl.de/ - specific instructions on how to use the individual services can be found there.
In the first phase, the following services were designed and set up for the RARP.
Services for end users
SSH backup
We offer access via SSH to conveniently back up smaller data of individual users. Common clients are already supported on the server side (rsync, obnam, borg), others can be requested. We currently offer up to 8GB of verified quota space per user.
This service is free of charge.
To use the service, please register at https://login.rarp-kl.de/ and follow the instructions there.
Server virtualization
As a flexible method for outsourcing complete servers, we offer the option of operating virtual machines (VM) in our VMWare ESX cluster. We are happy to help you define the RAM, CPUs and storage equipment.
This service is subject to a charge.
A "small" VM is available free of charge.
Send us a message to hotline(at)rhrk.uni-kl.de for more information on using the service.
Gitlab
Gitlab is a software for version management and is used in software development to have defined code states and, of course, the associated documentation in one place.
This service is free of charge.
To use the service, go to https://gitlab.rarp-kl.de and log in with your local account via Shibboleth.
High performance computing
All academic staff at universities in Rhineland-Palatinate can use our high-performance computer "Elwetritsch"(https://elwe.rhrk.uni-kl.de) as part of the AHRP(https://www.ahrp.info) to carry out complex simulations or time-consuming calculations.
This service is free of charge.
To use the service, please register at https://login.rarp-kl.de/and follow the instructions there.
Services for IT service providers at universities
In addition to the above-mentioned services, other services are available that are specifically aimed at the needs of IT service providers at colleges and universities (usually the computer centers). Of course, IT service providers can also use the above-mentioned services.
Tape backup
For the long-term archiving of large amounts of data, we offer a tape backup based on IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly: Tivoli).
This service is subject to a charge.
To use the service, please register at login.rarp-kl.de and follow the instructions there.
NFS backup
In order to also offer solutions for data management platforms (such as veeam, Rubrik, ...), we also provide NFS shares directly as a flexible backup target.
This service is subject to a charge.
Send us a message to hotline(at)rhrk.uni-kl.de for more information on using the service.
Exchange
We offer Microsoft Exchange as a groupware solution, currently the best-known solution in the mail and appointments sector.
In order to manage a complex infrastructure such as Microsoft Exchange as efficiently as possible, a great deal of know-how and manpower is required. Here we relieve the IT service providers of the universities by taking over the mail operation of a complete domain on request.
We connect the Active Directory of the local IT service provider loosely coupled (without trust) to ours and provide support in planning the migration of the old mailboxes. The local IT service provider can carry out administrative tasks via a web admin interface.
This service is subject to a charge.
Send us a message to hotline(at)rhrk.uni-kl.de for more information on using the service.
SPAM filter
We offer central spam filtering as a service to mark spam accordingly before it is delivered to end users.
This service is free of charge.
Write to us at hotline(at)rhrk.uni-kl.de for more information on how to use the service.
