(done) Maintenance work on the RPTU DFS server on 20.06.2024

Dear users,

We would like to inform you about essential maintenance work on a central RPTU server system that may affect every user.

Due to a technical changeover, the so-called DFS server will not be available or only available to a limited extent on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 8:30 am to approx. 10:30 am. This will result in considerable operational restrictions during this time.

The following services and data will not be available

  • Central Windows user directories
  • Central Windows user profiles
  • Central network drives ("data packages")
  • Logins to domain clients (in particular central administration and computer pool rooms of the RHRZ in Landau)
  • Logins to Windows terminal servers (e.g. using Rangee devices)

We would like to ask you to consider the planned maintenance period in your daily planning for 20.6.2024.

Precautionary measures:

Save all files that are still open the day before or by 8.30 a.m. on 20.6.2024 at the latest and close them and log out of PCs, laptops or Windows terminal servers if possible.

Consequences:

For you as a user of this service, this means that you cannot access your data in the user profiles and user directories. It is also not possible to access data on mounted drives (such as the P: drive in Central Administration). It is not possible to save documents that are already open or to load new files from central directories.

What is the DFS server?

The so-called "DFS server" is an important core component of the RPTU server landscape and provides the central file system for the entire RPTU. You use this server in your daily work, for example, when logging in with your RPTU account on a PC, laptop or server with a Windows operating system (so-called domain clients). You may also only use this server by accessing centrally stored files from your PC via "\\files.rptu.de\DFS" (or "\\fp0.uni-kl.de\DFS") or by setting up fixed access via a network drive. On devices with Linux and macOS, you can access your data on the server system from smb://files.rptu.de/dfs or smb://fp0.uni-kl.de/dfs.

No restrictions:

On this day, the following central services, among others, can continue to be used:

  • Central Linux systems (terminal server and HPC)
  • Seafile
  • email
  • VPN
  • eduroam
  • Mattermost
  • UC / Telephony

Thank you for your understanding.
