The possibility of a new beginning

As you will have noticed, our new university has been given a really catchy-sounding abbreviation despite having a very long name. And we were able to buy one of the rarely available 4-letter .de domains for us: RPTU.DE

We are excited about the opportunity to create a meaningful structure for subdomains and directory structures with a fresh domain.

We know that a clear and user-friendly URL structure is very important for our visitors. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to create a meaningful structure for our URLs that makes it easier for our visitors to find their way around our website.

With the main domain and subdomains for faculties and central facilities, we can address clearly delineated areas of our website, while a clear directory structure will allow us to better organize and structure content. We believe this will help make our website even more user-friendly and accessible for our visitors.

We also know that this change will help our website to be better represented in search engines overall. By bundling content under a few domains, we can strengthen our brand at RPTU.

Domain and directory concept for websites at RPTU.DE

Without WWW

Website URLs do not contain www as a subdomain or host name. There is no automatic redirection from URLs with www to URLs without www.

Subdomains for central institutions and faculties only

Only central institutions and faculties have the option of using a subdomain. Exceptions are websites that are not centrally administered by the RHRZ (example: self-administered websites in hosting packages or on own servers). These must be operated with a subdomain.

Classification of individual websites in subdirectories according to their subject matter

Example of subdirectories:

  • Projects /projekte
  • Events
  • Groups /gruppen
  • Representations /vertretungen
  • working groups /ags
  • Institute /institute
  • ...

Websites whose content is relevant for the entire university can be given a URL without a subdirectory. Approval required.

Example: rptu.de/projekte/sfb-abc, eit.rptu.de/ags/arbeitsgruppe but rptu.de/datenschutz

Short URLs or desired URLs

Anyone can generate short URLs at https://rptu.de/s/. These URLs are non-speaking.

Employees at RPTU who register can also edit their own short URLs later.

In all cases, this is a redirect to a page at RPTU.

Websites at rptu.de must comply with the CI of RPTU

The affiliation to RPTU must be recognizable from the graphic design.

Websites at rptu.de must comply with all legal requirements

This includes requirements regarding the imprint obligation, data protection, accessibility, copyright, etc.
