Notes for administrators

The WireGuard Client (or the WireGuard GUI) can only be executed under Windows by users who belong to the Administrators group. To ensure that WireGuard can also be used by users without admin rights, we recommend the following alternative solutions:

1st solution: RHRZ-WireGuard-GUI

RHRZ has developed an alternative RHRZ WireGuard GUI that can also be used by users who do not belong to the Administrators group. The software and documentation for administrators are available in the RHRZ Gitlab. Furthermore, SCCM packages are provided, both with and without the required software (WireGuard and ".Net 5.x").

Instructions for users are available as a PDF.

If you are an administrator and have any questions or problems with the software, please send them to:

2nd solution: Users receive rights for network configuration

WireGuard can be instructed via a registry key to also allow users who belong to the "Network Configuration Operators" group to run the WireGuard GUI. This is described at: https://git.zx2c4.com/wireguard-windows/about/docs/adminregistry.md

This solution naturally assumes that it is acceptable to grant the users these additional rights.
