Citavi
Citavi is a program for literature management and knowledge organization.
Citavi supports students and researchers in all steps of working with scientific literature. It starts with research. Citavi opens the door to over 4000 library catalogs and subject bibliographies, whose data can be saved for further processing with a single click. And even if you have books piled up on your desk, you don't have to type out the titles. If the books have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) - all books since 1980 have one - this number is sufficient and Citavi retrieves all the necessary information from the Internet: Author, title, publisher, year and often also the cover graphic and a short summary.
Citalivi runs under Windows. You can find some tips on installing it on Mac here.
RPTU has concluded a campus license agreement with Citavi for the use of rental licenses.
The current contract of TU Kaiserslautern ended on 31.12.2025. We are currently preparing a new 3-year contract for RPTU (Kaiserslautern and Landau) from 01.01.2026.

Notes on CitaviWeb:
Since 01.01.2023 we also offer CitaviWeb until further notice.
Since the storage location of Citavi data will no longer be in Germany in the future, we would like to expressly point out the following points in connection with the cloud functions:
- Although we do not advise against using Citavi6 (and subsequent versions), we do advise against using the cloud functions in these software versions.
- We do not recommend that you edit your projects in the Citavi Cloud.
- We do not recommend saving your projects in the Citavi Cloud; instead, you should save your projects locally.
- When using the cloud functions, please note that your Citavi account data and Citavi project data have been stored entirely in the Microsoft Azure Computing Centers in Dublin and Amsterdam since October 3, 2018.
- We would like to expressly point out that anyone who uses the Citavi cloud functions in any way is responsible for doing so.
You can obtain all versions provided by Citavi via the following Shibboleth link.
If you are unable to access the Citavi portal via this Shibboleth link, there may be a problem with the Citavi portal. In this case, please try one of the workarounds described below.

- As soon as the Shibboleth access from CITAVI is correctly linked to the CITAVI user account again, we will inform all "open tickets" about the CITAVI problem again.

There is also a quick guide on how to use Citavi.
Citavi may be installed by the respective licensee with a single license as often as desired on all devices used by him personally. An additional license is only required if different Citavi versions (e.g. Citavi 5 and Citavi 6) are installed. In this case, a license for older Citavi versions can be requested in the Citavi Account under "License" by clicking on the plus sign "New license".
Citavi can also be installed in pool rooms as a network license. In this case, please contact our ticket system.
If you have problems installing Citavi under Windows, please check that you have installed the latest Microsoft .NET Framework for your operating system.
