No new user or server certificates from 10.01.2025
RHRZ PKI Team26. November 2024
From January 10, 2025, no new X.509 certificates can be created in the DFN, as the contract of the service provider Sectigo ends. Existing certificates will remain valid and GÉANT and the DFN-PKI are working on a solution. To avoid interruptions, certificates expiring in the first half of 2025 should be renewed early.
As a member of the DFN (German Research Network), RPTU currently obtains X.509 user and server certificates via the GÉANT TCS service. GÈANT is the network of national European research networks. The contracted commercial service provider Sectigo has terminated the contract with GÉANT TCS as of January 10, 2025.
As of January 10, 2025, no new X.509 certificates can be created. GÈANT and the DFN-PKI are already working on a successor solution. It is currently still unclear when the service will be available again next year. It is expected that existing certificates will remain valid until the regular expiration date.
To bridge the time until a new service provider is available, we recommend renewing certificates that expire in the first half of 2025. Before 10.01.2025, create new user and server certificates that you foresee needing or have planned.
