Network access in the dormitories

The following student residences in Kaiserslautern and Landau are connected to the university network (Campus LAN) via fiber optics. Each apartment or network socket in the residences is assigned an IPv4 address for Internet access. This allows you to access the campus LAN or the Internet directly via the network socket in your apartment.

  • Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße 24 („Alcatraz“)
  • Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße 68 („Buntes Wohnheim“)

Connect device

You can use a network cable to connect a device, e.g. your PC or laptop, directly to the network socket and thus establish a connection to the campus LAN or the Internet.

Activate DHCP ("Obtain an IP address automatically") and Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the properties of your device's LAN connection.

For security reasons, it is recommended that you also deactivate File and Printer Sharing.

Login (Landau)

In Landau, Internet access is solely available via your RPTU account. The login page opens automatically after connecting to a computer.

Log in with your RPTU account (without "@rptu.de"), e.g.: mus77ter, and your RPTU password.

You will be asked to confirm your registration at regular intervals (30 days).

No registration is required in Kaiserslautern.

Device change

The assigned IPv4 address is always bound to the MAC address of the currently connected device for 15 minutes via DHCP.

If you want to change the connected device, proceed as follows:

  1. Disconnect the old device.
  2. Wait 15 minutes.
  3. Only then connect the new device.

Multiple devices/ own routers

The RHRZ only supports the connection of a single device per apartment.

Each network socket or apartment is assigned exactly one IPv4 address, and only one MAC address per socket is permitted.

Incorrectly connected end devices can lead to your Internet access being deactivated.

We recommend connecting a single device as described in the section "Connect device".

Quotation/ download traffic (Kaiserslautern)

For each network socket in the dormitories in Kaiserslautern, there is a limit for uploading and downloading data from the Internet and the university network. If the limit is exceeded, internet access for the respective socket is disabled for the remainder of the current quota period!

You can view the data traffic you have generated in relation to the applicable limit at https://quota.wohnheim.uni-kl.de.

Up- and download is not limited in the dormitories in Landau.
