Instructions for: KeePassXC

General information

KeePassXC is a free, open-source password manager that helps you manage all your passwords securely in one place. With KeePassXC you can create and organize complex passwords and store certificates. In this guide, you will learn how to easily use your saved passwords in the browser.

Prerequisites
  • KeePassXC is installed on your system
  • You have opened a password database

Activate browser integration
Step 1: Install browser extension
  • For Chrome: Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for "KeePassXC Browser". Click on "Add".
  • For Firefox: Go to the Firefox add-ons and search for "KeePassXC browser". Click on "Add".
Step 2: Settings in KeePassXC
  • Open KeePassXC and go to "Tools" > "Settings..." or click on the gear icon.
  • Select "Browser integration" in the left menu.
  • Activate "Enable browser integration".
  • Select your browser (Chrome or Firefox) from the list.
Step 3: Establish connection
  • Open your browser and click on the KeePassXC browser icon.
  • Click on "Connect" and switch to KeePassXC
  • KeePassXC should now open a new window for assigning a connection name, assign a unique name for your computer here
  • Confirm the message via "Save and allow access"
Step 4: Access in the browser
  • Switch to the browser, the plugin should now be connected
  • As long as you have unlocked the database and there is a password with a matching URL, you should be shown an account suggestion
  • When connecting for the first time, you may receive an access request - if the website is allowed to access the password, you must confirm this and remember it if necessary
