Did you know how you can display content on different pages and only maintain it in one place?
Have you ever wanted to display a content element on several pages but only want to make changes to one of the pages later?
You can do this with the "Insert data record" content element, which you can find in the "Special" tab. We often just call it "Reference". Here you can simply specify the content element that is to be displayed again. Changes to the original content element are displayed in all places where the original content element is displayed "as a reference".
We do this on the RHRZ pages, for example, with the support options that are displayed at the end of product or instruction pages.
If you want to work with a lot of content that is displayed multiple times on your pages, we recommend the following procedure:
1. create a folder below your storage folder with the title "Reused content" so that other editors* can easily find everything again.
2. create subpages on the respective topic of the content (e.g. student advice) and importantly! hide them in the search. (Page properties-> Behavior)
3. create the content elements that you want to use again. Assign a meaningful heading so that the content is easier to find when linking or referencing. Hide the heading if necessary.
4. to reduce the number of clicks required to distribute the new content to several other pages, create an "Insert data record" content element on the same page and specify which content element should be displayed. You can also specify several content elements here. Assign a proper heading here too, e.g. "Reference Contact Student Advisory Service" and set it to hide.
5. to distribute the content to different pages, copy the content element containing the reference once and insert the content element as a copy in all the places where you need it. Please do not confuse it with the original content element at this point.
6 From now on, you can always make changes on the corresponding page below the "Reused content" folder. They will then be displayed on all pages as soon as the cache of the page "expires". Depending on the settings of Typo3 or the page, this takes a maximum of 1 day.
Have fun with the references!
