Setting up a printer under Windows

You can address the RHRZ printers via so-called printer queues. Once set up, you can select the various RHRZ printers in the print dialog of your applications, as you are used to doing with other printers.

To set up the printers of the RHRZ Druckausgabe (Kaiserslautern: A4_SW, A4_Farbe, A3_SW, A3_Farbe and Landau: LD-PC-Pool-Printer) or the multifunction devices(FollowMe) on a device with Windows, please proceed as described in the following instructions.

However, it is not always necessary to set up a printer:

All available printers are already pre-installed on the computers in the two terminal pools/PC pools of the RHRZ in Kaiserslautern and Landau and on the remote stop servers (terminal servers) of the RHRZ.

In addition to using the printers via the printer queues described here, you can also send print jobs to the multifunction devicesby e-mail. If you want to print on the devices in the PC pool in Landau, you can alternatively use the online print function at druckausgabe.uni-kl.de.

To print posters up to a format of DIN A0 via the Druckausgabe, please upload them in the web portal under the menu item "Large format". Follow the instructions on large format printing.

Print server printer.rptu.de

Prerequisite: There must be a connection to the university network(LAN, WLAN, VPN).

Open the Windows File Explorer (WIN + E).

Enter \\printer.rptu.de in the address bar and confirm with "Enter":

If your computer is located in the RHRZ Active Directory and you have logged in with your RPTU account name and password, the following step can be skipped. Otherwise, you will be asked for the login information of your RPTU account, which you enter as follows:

  • Username: UNI-KL\RPTU account name (without @rptu.de), e.g. UNI-KL\mus77ter
  • Password: RPTU password

IMPORTANT: To be able to use the printers even after restarting the computer without having to repeat the setup process, please check the box"Save login data".

You can edit or remove the saved login data at any time (e.g. after a password change).

Connect printer

You will now see a list of all available printers.

You can install the desired printer on your system by double-clicking on it or by right-clicking on "Connect...".

The RHRZ Druckausgabe printers are called A4_SW, A4_Farbe, A3_SW and A3_Farbe.

Use the FollowMe printer for campus-wide printing on the multifunctional devices (subject to a charge).

For the printers in the PC pool at the RHRZ in Landau, select LD-PC-Pool-Printer.

The printer driver will now be downloaded and the printer set up on your system.

The printer is now installed and is available in the printer selection on your PC.

Notes

Authorizations: Administrator rights may be required to install the printer drivers. In this case, please contact the responsible IT administrator.

Printing from home: A VPN connection to the university is required.

Customize print settings

Default setting

In the settings under "Bluetooth and devices" > "Printers and scanners", you can define the default settings for the printers. If you regularly print double-sided, for example, you can preselect this setting so that you do not have to make the same settings repeatedly for each print job.

To do this, select the respective printers and click on (under Win10 "Manage" >) "Print settings".

Make the desired settings (e.g. 2-sided: Bind. long edge) and confirm with "Apply".

When you now open and print a document, this default setting is automatically selected. Of course, you can always change the settings for the individual print job.

One-click presets

The printer driver also supports the creation of multiple one-click presets, which can be selected quickly and easily when printing.

In the"Print settings" window (see Default settings section), select"Save current settings" in the bottom left-hand column to save the selected settings as a one-click preset. Assign a meaningful name and describe the settings you have made in detail if necessary. After confirming with"OK", the one-click preset you have created will now appear in the list in the middle column.

If the presets have been successfully created, you can load them with one click when printing a document. To do this, open the"Print settings" via the print dialog, for example by clicking on"Printer properties" in Microsoft Word or by clicking on"Properties" in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
