Instructions for: Certificates under Apple MacOS

General information

This guide shows you how to display your own certificates under macOS. Certificates are digital security credentials that are used, among other things, for encrypting emails or for authentication with services. You can use the macOS "Keychain management" utility to view your imported certificates, check their expiration date and ensure that they are installed correctly.

Step 1: Opening the keyring management
  • Open the Finder and click on Applications
  • Navigate to Utilities and open Keychain Management
  • Alternatively , you can use "cmd + spacebar" to open the Spotlight search and search for "Keychain management".
Step 2: Displaying the certificates
  • In the keyring management you will see an overview of your keyrings on the left-hand side
  • Select the keyring in which your certificates are located, usually "Login"
  • Click on the "Mycertificates" tab to display only certificates
  • Select the desired certificate to view more detailed information, such as the expiration date

Note

Even if a certificate has already expired - DO NOT delete it! Old certificates may be required for further decryption of old e-mails - if the certificate is deleted, you will no longer be able to view encrypted e-mails.
