Members of the RPTU can create a personal user certificate via the self-service. The user certificates (S/Mime certificates) contain their name and primary e-mail address.

User certificates can be used for the electronic signature and encryption of e-mails. The personal user certificates are also suitable for the electronic signature of PDF documents.

Self-service for user certificates via single sign-on (Shibboleth) is possible if:

• there is sufficient identity verification for employees (e.g. through the employment contract)
• an identity check has been carried out for students or other employees at the RZ Service Center.
  

Groups that share a functional e-mail address can apply for an e-mail-only certificate. Email-only certificates only contain the email address but no names. These certificates can be used to digitally sign and encrypt emails.
