General information
Secure your e-communication by integrating personal S/MIME certificates. In this guide, you will learn step by step how to integrate your certificates to encrypt and digitally sign emails. By using S/MIME, you increase the confidentiality and authenticity of your messages, protect sensitive data and ensure the integrity of your communication.
Prerequisites
- You have a valid user certificate
- You are using Outlook version 2019 or higher
Step 1: Importing the certificate
- Double-click on the certificate that you received from the provider "Gèant TCS"(see User certificates instructions)
- As soon as the"Certificate import wizard" opens, select the"Current user" option and click "Next"
In the next step, select the certificate file that you downloaded when you applied and click on "Next".
Step 2: Confirming the import
- In the next step, enter the password that you entered at the time of application
- Select the option"Include all extended properties", if not selected automatically
If you are asked for the certificate store, select the following option:
"Automatically select certificate store (based on certificate type)"
In the last step, click on"Finish" - the certificate should now be available under Windows.
Step 6: Selecting the certificate
- Select the mail account in the security settings for which the certificate was created
- Click on "Select" under"Signing certificate" if the certificate was not linked automatically
- Click on "Select" under"Encryption certificate" if the certificate was not linked automatically
- At the end, click on"Ok" to save the settings
Step 7: Applying the signature
If you are now composing an email, you can click on "Sign" under "Options" and add a digital signature to your emails.
If you have already received such a key from a person, you can click on "Encrypt" to encrypt the emails so that outsiders cannot read them, even if they are intercepted.
