
Description
Follow the steps in these instructions to establish a secure connection from your Windows 11 computer to the Windows remote desktop servers"win-ts.rptu.de","win-ts.edu.rptu.de" or "win-ts.zv.rptu.de" via the gateway server"rdsgate.uni-kl.de".
A VPN connection to RPTU is not required.

Brief information
Step 2: Specify terminal server
- The name of the computer you want to connect to is for
- Students: win-ts.edu.rptu.de
- Employees of the central administration: win-ts.zv.rptu.de
- all other employees: win-ts.rptu.de
In the screenshots in these instructions, "win-ts.rptu.de" is used as an example.
- Then select"Show options".

- Set rdsgate.uni-kl.de as the gateway server and "Request password" as the login method.
- Activate the option "Use own remote desktop gateway credentials for remote computers".
- Confirm with OK.
If you are logged in with your AD profile on the device you are using, you can also omit this last tick.
- Switch back to the"General" tab.
- Enter your RPTU account name followed by"@rptu.de" (e.g. mus77ter@rptu.de) as your username.
- Activate the option"Allow saving of login information" if you do not want to have to enter your password when connecting repeatedly.
Optional:
Here you can save the connection settings you have already made. By double-clicking on the saved file, you can then directly establish the connection with the selected settings in future.
To do this, select the"Save as..." button.
- In the window that opens, specify the storage location, e.g. the desktop, and a file name, e.g. RHRZ-TS. Confirm with the"Save" button.
You return to the Remote Desktop Connection window.
Step 6: Log on to gateway server and terminal server
You will be asked for your password for the gateway server and the terminal server (remote computer).
- Enter your RPTU password and confirm with OK.
You are taken to the Windows interface of the terminal server with your own user environment with personal desktop and personal home directory.
