Rangee - General operation

For the full functionality of your Rangee system, you need an Internet connection and, if necessary, a VPN connection to the RPTU network. Please also refer to the instructions on Rangee WLAN and Rangee VPN.

Registration

After switching on, the login dialog appears.

If the monitors on your Rangee client are not connected directly to the device but via a docking station, the monitors will only be activated after around 1 to 2 minutes. If, for example, a major update has been loaded, it may take longer for the monitors to switch on.

Enter your RPTU account name (without @rptu.de or @rhrk.uni-kl.de) and the corresponding password and select "OK".

Start session

The Rangee logo in the bottom left-hand corner takes you to the start menu. Here you can start various FreeRDP or browser sessions, among other things.

The starters displayed may differ from the images used here.

With a FreeRDP session, you can also work remotely on servers at RPTU. The programs are executed on the server, the display and control takes place on your Rangee.

To work on the Windows remote desktop servers of the RHRZ (terminal server "ts.uni-kl.de"), select "FreeRDP" and then "Windows Terminal Server".

For a browser session, select "Chromium browser" and then "Outlook", for example, to access your Exchange e-mail account.

Scale display (for FreeRDP sessions)

You can enlarge the display for FreeRDP connections. To do this, select "Scripts" - "RDP DPI settings" in the start menu.

You can now select the desired scaling and confirm with OK.

The currently selected scaling is marked with an X in the right-hand column.

The set scaling is used the next time a FreeRPD session (e.g. Windows Terminal Server) is started.

Switch to full screen mode

The full screen mode (e.g. with Windows Terminal Server Multimonitor) can be switched with <Ctrl><Alt><Enter>. This enables access to the Rangee taskbar or Start menu. To reactivate the full screen mode of a connection, press <Ctrl><Alt><Enter> again.

Lock screen

To lock your screen during a work break, open the Start menu via the Rangee logo in the bottom left-hand corner and select "Lock screen".

If you do not see the Rangee logo in the bottom left-hand corner, first switch off full screen mode with the key combination <Ctrl><Alt><Enter>.

To unlock, enter your password in the login dialog.

To return to full screen mode after locking the screen, use the key combination <Ctrl><Alt><Enter>.

When using the lock screen, your Rangee client is completely blocked for use by other people. In this case, they will also not be able to log in with their own account.

Log out

The "Log out" menu item contained in some illustrations has been removed. Please use "Restart" here.

Switch off the device

Always switch off your Rangee after work. This is particularly important as updates and configurations are only loaded from the central management server (TCMS) when the device is shut down/restarted. This ensures that your Rangee client is always up to date.

Before you switch off your device, log out of any running FreeRDP sessions.

Then open the start menu via the Rangee logo in the bottom left corner and select "Shutdown".
