IAM4NFDI

Identity and access management for the National Research Data Infrastructure

Organization

The non-profit association Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI) e.V., based in Karlsruhe, was founded in October 2020 to coordinate activities to establish a national research data infrastructure (NFDI).

More than 300 institutions (scientific organizations, universities, colleges, non-university research institutions, professional societies and associations) are now members of NFDI. The individual scientific departments work together in consortia on internal and interdisciplinary topics.

The basic services consortium, BASE4NFDI, develops joint, interoperable solutions for NFDI.

The RHRZ is actively involved in IAM4NFDI, BASE4NFDI's first funded basic services project.

Objective

IAM4NFDI provides an authentication and authorization infrastructure (AAI) for NFDI.

The project is concerned with the networking and expansion of existing and emerging Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems so that researchers from different fields and institutions can access NFDI digital resources as easily as possible, including access to and exchange with external infrastructures and resources such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

This means that IAM4NFDI ensures that you can log in to the NFDI services (and in future also EOSC services) using your home institution's account. You can also use it to manage the members of your research community and use standardized rights management for your services.
