Printing by e-mail (mail-to-print)

Follow-me system

You can use the multifunctional devices in the Follow-me systemanywhere on the Kaiserslautern campus not only to copy and scan, but also to print out documents in A4 or A3 format, in black and white or in color. This service is subject to a charge. Billing via cost center is possible.

To use the print function, send your print job to the print server of the Follow-me system and then start printing on a multifunctional device of your choice.

The following instructions explain how to send a document in A4 format to the Follow-me system by e-mail.

Sending your print job by e-mail is not always the best option. Please also find out about the possible alternatives to printing by e-mail.

Unfortunately, for technical reasons, sending print jobs by e-mail is not possible when using the Druckausgabe printers.

General information on the Follow-me system and other options for printing at RPTU can be found under Printing, copying, scanning.

Prerequisites

  • You need an RPTU account to use the multifunction devices in the Follow-me system.
  • The document you wish to print is available in A4 page size in one of the supported file formats.
  • The file name of your document only contains letters (a-z, A-Z), numbers (0-9) and the following special characters ("-" "_" ".").
  • You use your primaryRPTU e-mail address as the sender address.

Send e-mail

Open your e-mail program and create a new message.

Enter one of the following e-mail addresses as the recipient:

The sender address you use must be your primaryRPTU email address. (See section: "Checking the sender address")

You can freely choose the subject of the message.
The following confirmation e-mail will be sent in response to your order e-mail. It is therefore best to choose a subject that will allow you to easily assign the e-mails later.

You do not need to enter anything in the text area (body) of the message; this part of your message is not processed by the printing system.

Add the document you want to print as a file attachment.

If your files are not too large, you can also send several documents in one e-mail.

Print settings such as document scaling cannot be made when printing by e-mail.
Therefore, make sure that you only send documents in A4 page format and in one of the supported file formats.
Only use letters (a-z, A-Z), numbers (0-9) and the following special characters ("-" "_" ".") in the file name.

Check your entries and send your message.

Alternatives to printing by e-mail

In addition to sending by e-mail, you also have the option of sending jobs to the RHRZ printers(Druckausgabe and Follow-me system) via so-called printer queues. Once set up on your PC or laptop, you can select the various RHRZ printers in the print dialog of your applications, as you are used to doing with other printers. To do this, follow the instructions on "Setting up printers".

All available printers are already pre-installed on the computers in the terminal pools/PC pools of the RHRZ in Kaiserslautern and Landau and on the remote stop servers (terminal servers) of the RHRZ.

If you want to print on the devices in the PC pool in Landau, you can alternatively use the online print function at druckausgabe.uni-kl.de.

To print posters up to a format of DIN A0 via the Druckausgabe, please upload them in the web portal under the menu item "Large format". Follow the instructions on "Large format printing".
