Instructions for: KeePassXC

General information

KeePassXC is a free, open-source password manager that helps you manage all your passwords securely in one place. With KeePassXC you can create and organize complex passwords and store certificates. In this guide you will learn how to save new passwords.

Prerequisites
  • KeePassXC is installed on your system
  • You have opened a password database

Step by step

Add new entry

Step 1: Create entry
  • Select the group in which the new entry is to be saved (e.g. "Root", i.e. the top level)
  • Click on "Add entry" (symbol with a plus)
Step 3: Enter entry details
  1. Title: Enter a meaningful name (e.g. the name of the website).
  2. User name: Enter your user name or your e-mail address.
  3. Password: Enter your password or use the password generator
  4. URL: Add the web address to receive a password suggestion when the browser plugin is active
  5. Notes: Add additional information if necessary. ATTENTION: This data is NOT encrypted!

Click "OK" at the end to save the entry


Step by step

Add new group

Step 1: Add group
  1. Right-click on the existing group structure (e.g. "Root").
  2. Select "New group" from the context menu.
Step 2: Enter group details
  • Name: Enter a name for the new group (e.g. "Social media").
  • Icon: Select an icon for the group on the left-hand side, if desired.
  • Auto-Type: Set here whether the passwords in this group may be used for auto-filling

Click on "OK" to add the new group.


Step by step

Use password generator

Step 1: Open password generator

Click on the "Password generator" icon (cube icon) in the toolbar or go to "Tools" > "Password generator".

Step 2: Adjust settings
  • Length: Select the desired password length ( at least 12 characters are recommended).
  • Character types: Select which character types should be included (upper and lower case letters, numbers, special characters).
Step 3: Generate & use password

The password is automatically created according to your specifications and displayed in the top line.

 

To use:

  • Click on the "Copy password" sign to copy it to the clipboard.
  • Or, if you are using the function within a new entry, click on "Apply password".
