Every workstation at RPTU can be equipped with a landline phone. This phone is available to you with its own phone number for business use both on campus and on the public network. Each user receives a business phone number (upon request). However, this number can be used with various phone devices (One-Number Service).
Internal university calls can be made without an area code by dialing the last 4 or 5 digits (extension) of the phone number. Calls between the KL and LD campuses can be made by dialing the area code 60 followed by the respective extension number.
Business calls to the public network must be prefixed with 0 (the area code is marked with a + in the staff and course catalog). Personal calls are not permitted.
Connections to certain premium-rate numbers, such as 0900, or to satellite phones may not be possible in some cases, as these are blocked campus-wide.
Attention!
A phone and its associated phone number can only be transferred if the existing phone is an IP-enabled device. If this is not the case, a new IP phone must be purchased through the Telephony Department. Please contact the Telephony Department directly at telefonie(a)rptu.de or order a new device using the form provided here.
In the event of a personnel change , a name change must be requested via the Telephony department’s change request form . Otherwise, the phone number in use will be deactivated.
Please have no more than two names assigned to a single number . For more than two users, please specify a functional name. (Functional name: Department/Building/Room => e.g., Doctoral Students RHRZ 32/344) In these two scenarios, UC functionality will not be available for that number!
The telephony department can also provide an overview of the assigned numbers for the respective cost center.
Additional guidelines can be found in the download section of this website.

Wired telephones Campus Kaiserslautern
Telephony via the softphone (UC web client) is an extension of UC access that allows you to make calls via your PC/laptop. To do this, you use the audio function of your PC/laptop, preferably via a headset or a hands-free device such as the one you use to participate in video conferences. There are no costs for the provision of telephony via the UC web client, but this must be ordered via the form Order/change UC access form. However, this service is initially only available at the Kaiserslautern campus.
Telephony via softphone (UC web client) is an alternative to the classic desk phone. A softphone is a piece of software which, like a desk phone, is given its own telephone number.
It is possible to apply for a test number for telephony via PC/laptop and test this function. However, as only one telephone number can be provided for each user, you must decide after a 14-day test phase whether you want to continue using a desk phone or telephony via UC Web Client.
Internet telephony
Internet telephony is also known as WebRTC (Real Time Communication) and enables calls to be made via the UC WebClient using a PC/laptop. The audio function of the PC/laptop is used for this purpose. A headset or hands-free device can also be used for this purpose, e.g. for participating in video conferences. Alternatively, a telephone connected via USB can also be used. There are no costs for the provision of telephony via the UC-WebClient. This must be ordered using the form Order/change UC access form.
Telephony via UC-WebClient is an alternative to the classic desk telephone. The UC-WebClient then receives its own telephone number, just like a desk telephone. The UC-WebClient can also be used with a desk phone to manage contacts and call lists.
It is possible to activate the WebRTC with a second number (test number) and test the functionalities. After a 14-day test phase, the test number will be deactivated again. After this, the decision should be made as to whether calls should continue to be made via a desk phone or via WebRTC. In the second case, the existing number is reprogrammed and the desk phone is removed.
Different telephone systems are installed at both RPTU locations. For this reason, the UC service is initially only available in Kaiserslautern. We are working on a solution for Landau.
Further services
- Answering machine (PhoneMail): one-off set-up fee € 45.
- Fax2PC (requires PhoneMail): one-off set-up fee € 30. For technical reasons, Fax2PC requires the"PhoneMail" answering machine. If this is not yet activated for you, Fax2PC must be ordered together with PhoneMail. The set-up fee is then € 75
- Unified Communication (UC)(here): no additional charges apply.
- The boss/secretary function (CHESE) facilitates communication between boss and secretary. With the help of this function, all calls, regardless of whether they are for the secretary or the boss, are only forwarded to the secretary. Calls for the manager are displayed on the manager's phone and if the manager wants to answer them himself/herself, he/she can do so using the button set up for this purpose. It is possible to divert calls completely to one of the lines by pressing a call divert button. The service can be set up for up to four bosses, two secretarial numbers and two substitutes. Instructions here.
- Call pickup group allows several subscribers to be combined into one group. If a call is received for a subscriber in the group, the device rings and an alert tone is generated for all other subscribers and the incoming call is shown on the display. The call can be picked up by pressing the configured call pick-up button. This does not work for analog devices.
To order services and functions, please use the telephone request form and state the desired service(s)/function(s) in the"Comments" field. If you are ordering the function for an existing telephone connection, please use "Other" in the form under "Type of order".
