Instructions for: SPSS network license

General information

SPSS is a software for statistical data analysis that helps you to efficiently collect, analyze and visualize data. With SPSS, you can perform complex statistical calculations, identify trends and make well-founded decisions. The program offers a user-friendly interface as well as numerous analysis tools and visualization functions. Students at RPTU can use SPSS free of charge.

Step 1: Download the setup file

Download the appropriate setup file from the RHRZ service portal:
https://serviceportal.rz.rptu.de/

Note:

  • The service portal is only accessible from the university network or via VPN
  • Login with your RPTU account (without @rptu.de)


You can select an SPSS version from several options, you can freely choose the version and later switch to a newer version. We recommend that you always use the latest version.

Step 2: Starting the setup
  • Execute the downloaded file on your Mac by double-clicking on the file
  • Confirm the terms and conditions and license information

If you want to make further adjustments, such as the installation location, adjust these in the next step.

Step 3: Customize the options (optional)

After confirming the license agreement, you have the option to adjust further options or install additional accessories (depending on the version). Then confirm the installation start.

Note:
When starting the installation, you will be prompted by the operating system to allow the installation with your device password or fingerprint.

Step 4: Starting the licensing wizard
  • After installation, you will be redirected to the licensing process. The license wizard for SPSS opens in the following window.
  • Now select the "Launch License Wizard" option.
Step 5: Selecting the license type

Now select the option:
"License for users logged in at the same time" in the options for product authorization

Firewall activation

Please note:
From here you need a firewall activation!

This firewall activation serves as proof that you are authorized to use this software. If you have not already done so, please activate the firewall on the license server "licserv-a.rz.rptu.de" now . You must apply for activation each time you use the software!

Step 6: Specifying the license manager

Enter the following address for the name of the license manager server:
"licserv-a.rz.rPTU.de"

If the authorization is successful, the license information will be displayed in the next step.

You can now use SPSS!

Tips for troubleshooting
  • Have you requested a firewall activation and have not switched the VPN on or off in the meantime?
  • Is the address you entered for the license server correct?
  • Is the version you have installed still licensed by RHRZ?
