Instructions for: Introduction at RPTU in Landau

Description

Some Ricoh devices at RPTU in Landau are currently being replaced by multifunction devices (printing, copying, scanning) from the RHRZ, which are operated in the follow-me system. This means that you send a print job to the print server and can start printing on any device connected to the system. The print job virtually follows you to the device you visit.
As the follow-me system works across locations, you can, for example, send a job to the print server from Kaiserslautern or from your home office on Monday and start printing on one of the follow-me devices in Landau on Tuesday.

These instructions will guide you through the first steps for setting up and using the multifunction devices in the Follow-me system.

Prerequisites
  • You need an RPTU account to use the RHRZ printing systems.
  • There must be a connection to the university network(LAN, WLAN, VPN).

Introduction of the Landau follow-me system

Step 1: Inform

The use of multifunctional devices (printing, copying, scanning) in the Follow-me system is subject to a charge. This is billed either via a personal credit that you can top up for private use via a rebooking machine or via a cost center for business use.

There is currently no rebooking machine available in Landau, so initially only business use via cost center is possible.

Step 2: Set up cost centers and user authorizations via the service portal

The person responsible for the cost center (cost center owner) enters the cost center and assigns the authorizations.

Step 3: Install the printer driver

The printer driver must be installed once on your computer and the FollowMe printer must be set up. To do this, you need administrator rights on your device.

You can then send a print job as usual via the print dialog of your applications.

On the Windows remote desktop servers (terminal servers), the printer for the Follow-me system is already set up. You do not need to do anything here.

If you do not have administrator rights, please contact your IT support.

Alternatives:

If you establish a connection from your computer to one of the Windows remote desktop servers/terminal servers, you can print your document from there. Windows remote desktop server (terminal server)

 

Step 3: Sending the print job

You can send the document that you want to print in A4 or A3 format to the print queues on the RHRZ print server via the print dialog of your application, just as you are used to from your desktop printer, for example.

Open your document, select Print and select the printer with the name FollowMe in the print dialog.

Step 4: Start printing on the multifunction device

Once you have sent your print job, you can start printing on any Follow-me device. Your print jobs are stored on the print server for a maximum of 5 days until they are printed.

You can not only print, but also copy and scan on the multifunction devices. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions.
